The Nutcracker - A Holiday Tradition
As the holiday season approached, young ballet dancers from the Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement shared their love of dance in their annual production of The Nutcracker. Now in its 24th year, the production has become a seasonal tradition for many people throughout the Toronto West community and beyond. Five performances were staged from December 17th through the 20th at Humberside Collegiate Institute that featured more than 100 dancers - a group that finds entire families on stage together, including siblings, their parents and grandparents. Our SNAP photographers attended the opening night performance to capture all the behind-the-scenes action and the opening night reception prior to the show that includes volunteers, past performers and several local dignitaries. Pia Bouman shared her thoughts on the performance, calling it a timeless story of hope, enchantment and a celebration of family and friends. Pia Bouman’s Nutcracker has never been the same twice. Each year brings new variations and embellishments to the choreography, costuming, characters and sets, while staying true to the classic story audiences have come to enjoy at this special time of year. By the end of the last performance, more than 3,000 will have attended this year's production.
